or on grounds of sex or marital status or Age Field Operatives will be interviewed,
assessed, employed and submitted to Customers of Dial a hubby on the basis
of their ability and merits and according to the requirements of the assignment.

We realise that it is everyone's best interests to maintain a safe, healthy
and accident-free working environment and the Company Health and Safety Policy
statement, outlining our commitment to do so can be found below. To provide
such an environment we must rely upon the co-operation of you and all the
employees under the law as detailed in the Health and Safety at work Act.
The Act states that all employees have a responsibility to: - · Work safely
and use all equipment correctly according to operating instructions. · Take
reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself, other staff and the
general public. · Co-operate with the Company to ensure that all relevant
provisions of the Act are observed. · Ensure that you understand and can carry
out all emergency procedures, fire precautions and evacuation procedures laid
down by the Company. · Report immediately to the Manager any potential hazard
to employees or the general public The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
requires all employers to carry out a range of statutory duties, both specific
and general in nature, aimed at ensuring, as far as is reasonably practicable,
the health, safety and welfare of all their employees. It poses a challenge
to all Directors of Companies to take a fresh look at ways and means of creating
a healthy and safe working environment. The importance of the Company taking
the initiative in this vital area, even at the very highest level, cannot
be too highly stressed. It provides the basis upon which all levels of Management
and Employees can work together with achieve improvement. The Company fully
accepts the implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act, which states,
"It shall be the duty of every employer to ensure, so far as is reasonably
practicable, the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work of all his employees."
This responsibility will be carried out by providing and maintaining safe
working conditions in accordance with relevant statutory requirements, but
in addition, it will require the co-operation and acceptance of certain standards

HEALTH

INTRODUCTION
The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, requires each Company to prepare and, when appropriate, to revise a written statement of general policy with respect to the health and safety at work of its employees, and the organisation or arrangements in force for carrying out the Policy, and to bring the Policy Statement to the notice of all employees. This document contains the Policy Statement of Dial a hubby Limited, and applies to all Subsidiary Companies and Divisions.

SECTION I
GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY
It is the Policy of this Company to perform work in the safest practicable manner, consistent with good practice. The Company is also committed to continuously improve health and safety throughout our activities. The health and safety of the Company's employees, all those likely to be affected by our operations and the protection of Company assets is the responsibility of the management; Health & Safety is paramount.
It is the duty of the management to do everything reasonably practicable to prevent injury and ill health, and it is equally the duty of each employee to exercise personal responsibility for their own Health & Safety and that of others
Our policy is to provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions, equipment and working systems for our employees and the general public. The statement sets out the allocation of duties for safety matters and our arrangement for implementing our policy. The support of all employees of the firm is required to achieve the objectives of the policy.
SECTION II
RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Overall and final responsibility for Health and Safety in the Company is that of Mr Allan Cosgrove (Director).
b) Day to day responsibility for ensuring this policy is put into practise is delegated to Mr Allan Cosgrove & in his absence Mr Gary Jackson (Supervisor).
c) All employees must.
i) Co-operate with supervisors and managers on health and safety issues.
II) Not interfere with anything provided to safeguard theirs or others healthy & safety.
lll) take responsible care of their own health & safety and report all concerns regarding health & safety to the appropriate person(as detailed in this policy document
d) If an employee, supervisor or manager notices a Health and Safety problem, which, they are not able to put right, they should tell the appropriate person named above.
SECTION III
ACCIDENTS
a) The following is responsible for the first aid Box: Duty operations Manager
b) The Accident Record Book is located in the office on the left hand side wall at Unit 6,The Martlets Trading Estate,Martlets Way,Goring by Sea,BN12 4HF.The following is responsible for recording accidents in the Book: Duty operations Manager
c) each vehicle contains a first aid box, GENERAL FIRE SAFETY All employees are responsible for ensuring that escape routes are kept clear of obstructions, fire doors kept closed etc.
A fire drill will be held as arranged by the Duty operations Manager, quarterly.
SECTION IV
VISITORS, CONTRACTORS, AND TEMPORARY STAFF WORKING ON THE PREMISES.
Duty operations Manager in association with the Company Secretary is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of visitors, contractors and temporary staff working on the premises and where applicable will explain the Company's Health and Safety Policy. FIELD OPERATIVES SUPPLIED BY THE COMPANY TO CUSTOMERS Field operatives must ensure when working in a residential environment that they observe strict personal health and safety practices and common sense
The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that field operatives and Customers are aware of this.
SECTION V
HAZARDS Where the organisation buys substances that may create a hazard to health, any hazard sheets accompanying these will be kept in N/A
HOUSEKEEPING AND PREMISES Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that the relevant premises are kept clean. WASTE DISPOSAL Waste and rubbish is collected each evening arranged by the Operations Manager. All refuse is removed from the premises every evening and deposited in the wheelie bins provided.
SAFE STACKING AND STORAGE Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that any items stored on the premises are stored safely.
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT An electrical contractor will carry our thorough checks of the Electrical installation and equipment, and whenever new electrical equipment is installed the Operations Manager is responsible for organising this. Any apparent fault on electrical equipment should be reported to the Operations Manager for action.
All employees should ensure that wires and extension leads do not create a hazard.
SECTION VI
MACHINERY Duty Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the machinery is kept in a safe condition and that guards are kept in position.
SECTION VII
MAINTENANCE OF APPLIANCES Operations Manager is responsible for the maintenance of gas and other appliances. Any apparent faults should be reported to the Company Secretary for action. Any employee noticing a smell of gas on the relevant premises will report this immediately to the local Gas Board (Telephone number N/A) from whom advice should be sought on action to be taken until an investigation can be arranged.

CONSULTATION ON HEALTH AND SAFETY Any suggestions on improving health and safety should be made to the Allan Cosgrove (Director)
SECTION VIV
RISK ASSESSMENT. All employees MUST wear the correct safety Shoe/boot issued at all times.
Some customers may request you to remove your footwear while in their homes. This is NOT a safe and acceptable practice. boot covers are supplied.
Where the use of ladder access is required there must always be a trained operative at the bottom of the ladder. The ladder must never exceed 4 metres in height to comply with insurance regulations.
Where there are any heavy, awkward materials or objects (anything over 15kg)that require manhandling or need to be lifted or moved by hand then another operative must attend and manual handling lifting procedures employed.
On occasion it may be a necessary for an employee to access for risk on site at any given time. Where there is a perceived risk, it is important that the employee should in the absence of a clear safe way to perform the task. age or disability. Applicants, Customers, Employees and temporary workers
will be dealt with on the basis of their ability, merits, and needs and
according to the requirements of the assignment, as will candidates for
employment by Dial a hubby. No one will be disadvantaged by any condition

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE POLICY
It is the specific responsibility of Stephen Murray and all senior management
to ensure that this policy is fully implemented and that all employees are
aware of their responsibilities and the legal obligations that fall upon
them and upon this Company. All existing staff will undergo briefing to
enable them to meet the requirements of this policy. New staff will undergo
briefing as part of their induction. All employees will be made aware of
the legislation relating to sex, marital status, racial discrimination,
age or disability and the Company guidelines on sex and race discrimination,
age or disability and the action they must take if a Customer attempts to
book a field operative based on discriminatory grounds. All employees will
be made aware of the Equal Opportunities Commission's recommendations contained
in their leaflet "Fair Dealing". Employees will be made aware that they
are individually responsible for implementing this policy and complying
with the discrimination legislation.
DUTIES OF EMPLOYEE All employees will comply with both
the legislation and the independent guidelines produced from time to time
relating to sex and race discrimination and in particular those parts of
the guidelines dealing with action to be taken where a Customer attempts
to book a field operative based on discriminatory grounds. All employees
will have regard to the Equal Opportunities Commission's (EOC) recommendations
contained in their leaflet "Fair Dealing". It is the duty of each employee
to accept a commitment to this policy and their personal responsibility
for making the policy effective and their personal responsibility for discrimination
on grounds of sex, marital status or race or disability or age DISCIPLINE
Discrimination against any person on the grounds of their ethnic origin,
their sex or marital status or age or disability will be regarded as serious
misconduct and may result in dismissal
ANNUAL STAFF CRIMINAL RECORD (CRB) CHECK (inc Franchisee's)
All field operational personnel are required to undergo a CRB check annually
please see below an extract from the company's employment policy regarding
these checks. This policy also applies to prospective Franchise operators.
As much of your work will involve the elderly living alone, in sheltered
housing, in residential homes, young mothers with new babies, it is a requirement
that you hold a current CRB Check and that this check is undertaken once
a year. This is a basic requirement for your long-term employment with Dial
a hubby. Many of Dial a hubby’s clients have a statutory requirement
for their service providers to be police checked. Failure to provide, permit
or allow for a CRB check to be undertaken shall be regarded as if the CRB
check was undertaken and was unsatisfactory. An unsatisfactory CRB Check
will result in you being asked to resign.
